Davie's Waterway Cleanup Draws Record Number of Volunteers

About 500 volunteers helped clean up the South New River (C-11 Canal) this past weekend in Davie. As an added bonus, students who participated in this event received service hours which are required to graduate.

Davie and Central Broward Water Control District Host 12th Annual Waterway Cleanup along the South New River (C-11 Canal)

This past weekend, the Town of Davie and the Central Broward Water Control District hosted the 12th Annual WATERWAY CLEAN-UP, a public awareness campaign to keep our waterways clean. This event took place along the C-11 Canal, between State Road 7 and Flamingo Road in Davie.

What started as a group of volunteers gathering on a Saturday every year has grown into a major event involving hundreds of volunteers. Last year�s WATERWAY CLEAN-UP campaign pulled 2 tons of trash from our waterways (this year's trash haul is still being calculated).

As in past years, this year�s �TRASH SPLASH� followed the waterway cleanup. There were free hot dogs and other refreshments for all cleanup volunteers.

Davie proclaims May 15, 2008 as MARIA DUPUIS DAY

Davie proclaimed May 15, 2008 as MARIA DUPUIS DAY. Mrs. Dupuis, who celebrates her 100th birthday on May 15th, has resided in Davie for the past 30 years.

Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Meeting on April 16th

The Davie-Cooper City Chamber of Commerce holds it monthly breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each monthly at the Pine Island Ridge Country Club. All local businesses are highly encouraged to join the Chamber of Commerce and participate in Chamber functions.

Florida Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp visits Broward County

I spoke briefly to Florida Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp during his recent trip to Broward County. The Lt. Governor discussed some of the challenges and opportunities which lie in the future for our state. I'm impressed by his pledge to aid Governor Crist in establishing an open, accountable, and transparent administration.

Grand Opening for A TWISTED SOFT PRETZEL COMPANY in Davie

Recently I was honored to attend the ribbon cutting and grand opening for A Twisted Soft Pretzel Company in Davie at 5021 S. State Road 7. Their "Philly Pretzel" is a unique and completely fabulous product. Or, as they say at the Twisted Soft Pretzel Company, it's "Pretzelicious!"

South Florida Water Management District Issues New Water Restrictions.

South Florida Water Management District issued new water restrictions, effective January 15, 2008. A memo from the Town of Davie Utilities explaining the new restrictions is attached here as a PDF file; or a slightly expanded version is available on the South South Florida Water Management District web site.

Forest Ridge Annual Holly Day Parade

Forest Ridge hosted its annual Holly Day Parade on December 1st. This annual event has it all--floats, classic cars, dignitaries, marching bands and more. Plus it is a lot of fun! I know of no other community parade of this magnitude.

"Mr. Food No-Fuss Meals" opens in Davie

This week the Town of Davie and Davie-Cooper City Chamber of Commerce were honored to participate in the grand opening and ribbon cutting for "Mr. Food No-Fuss Meals" in the Tower Shops on University Drive, just South of I-595.
