Black Executive Forum in Miami
I was honored to be invited to be a panelist at the Black Executive Forum Public Policy Day at the Joseph Caleb Auditorium in Miami. I had an opportunity to speak with media and government relations consultant, Barbara Howard. I also met with Florida House of Representatives member, Marcelo Llorente. One topic of conversation--of course--Tax Legislation in Tallahassee.

Photo of the Week
Today's "Photo of the Week" was actually taken last week, at the dedication of basketball courts in memory of Daniel Wultz. I saw Weston Mayor, Eric Hersh, and we had an opportunity to discuss a couple of matters of mutual interest to our respective communities. In general, Davie is fortunate to enjoy very good relationships with our neighboring towns and cities.

Davie Dedicates Basketball Courts in Memory of Daniel Wultz
On October 11th, the Town of Davie dedicated basketball courts at Shenandoah Park in memory of David Wultz.
Daniel Wultz was wounded in April 2006 when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up at a Tel Aviv restaurant. He died a month later, age 16. He had close ties with the Town of Davie, and had in the past attended school in Davie.

VIDEO ONLINE: Davie Mobile Home/Affordable Housing Crisis
This is an interesting short video featuring Davie activist, Frank Serra. I have nothing to do with the content of his video. I don't endorse it. I'm not promoting it. However, I do have a lot of respect for Mr. Serra's commitment to this issue. He does an excellent job of explaining the problem and describing some possible solutions.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to Hold Workshops on Converting High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes (HOV) to High Occupancy Toll (HOT) facilities.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced several public workshops to discuss two proposed toll lanes running northbound; and two proposed toll lanes running southbound on I-95 in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. The Broward hearing is scheduled as follows:
Monday, October 22, 2007
5:00pm - 8:00pm
Sheraton Ft. Lauderdale Airport Hotel
1825 Griffin Road, Empire Ballroom
Dania, Florida 33004
"In an effort to provide new and enhanced mobility options for motorists and transit users in the region, FDOT is planning a Pilot Project to provide Managed Lanes on I-95, from I-395 in Miami-Dade County, to I-595 in Broward County. This involves the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes (HOV) to limited access managed lanes called the '95 Express'... The I-95 Managed Lanes Pilot reflects a growing national trend where urban areas are converting High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes into HOT (High Occupancy Toll) facilities." Last weekend, my family was honored to attend the "Back to School" party at Rexmere Village in Davie. Rexmere Village is a well kept, attractive mobile home park on at Hiatus and State Road 84.
