Sheridan House Family Ministries Dedicate Facilities on Flamingo Road Davie
I was pleased to join a few hundred other supporters of Sheridan House Family Ministries on the occasion of the dedication of the 57 acre facility on Flamingo Road in Davie
The Sheridan House Family Resource Center is a reality! "As buildings begin to rise from their foundations, Sheridan House is about to impact families in South Florida and around the nation in a new and very proactive way. This new ministry model will include local churches as partners providing long-term solutions, not quick fixes, to the problems families face today. The focus of these 57 acres will be preventive in nature. Here, Sheridan House will be able to develop additional homes for boys and girls, a village for single moms in postdivorce trauma, an expanded counseling center, a day-care center for the children of single moms, and an education center to provide training for moms and to further develop parenting curriculum." Florida Department of Transportation is Formulating Plans for I-75 Construction--Davie Pushes for Sound Walls as Part of the Process
This evening the Florida Department of Transportation hosted an informational meeting with residents, to discuss the planning process for potential new construction on I-75, in western Davie. One of my major priorities is to speed construction of a sound wall along the I-75 Corridor in order to provide some noise relief to residents in Ivanhoe. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is currently in the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) phase of planning.
"The Project Development and Environment Study is the formal process that the FDOT will use to ensure that consideration is given to environmental and social impacts, public input, engineering design, and project costs when evaluating the preferred type, design and location of the improviments to the I-75 Corridor" (Source: FDOT web page)

Davie Historical Society Hosts its Annual Pioneer Dinner at the Old Davie School.
Davie's preeminent Historical Society recently hosted it's annual Pioneer Dinner at the Old Davie School Historical Museum. The event highlighted several Davie families who settled Davie in the early part of the 20th Century. The area was called "Zona" at the time, since so many of the settlers had just arrived from working on the recently completed Panama Canal.

Teen Challenge, part 2: "Kick Drugs out of Davie!"
Teen Challege hosted a second event this past weekend: A free family open house at the Davie Rodeo Arena directed at "kicking drugs out of Davie!" Councilmember Susan Starkey and Mayor Tom Truex attended to lend support and to present a Town Proclamation. Henry Lozano, who was the keynote speaker for the previous night's dinner, also attended. The White House recently announced that President Bush has appointed Mr. Lozano, a long time Teen Challenge supporter, as Chairman of the Board of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
