Davie Historical Society hosts annual Pioneer Dinner

Recently the Davie Historical Society hosted it's annual "Pioneer Dinner" at the Old Davie School.

Three families were honored for their contributions in the settlement of Davie in the early part of the 20th Century: The Taylor family, Franklin family and Middlebrooks family.

Davie named as a 2006 Tree City USA

The Town of Davie recently recieved the prestigious award of Tree City USA.

"The Tree City USA® program, sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more than 93 million Americans call home." Dedication of Bob Amchir Way

The Town of Davie will formally dedicate NW 75th Terrace in Davie as "Bob Amchir Way" at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007.

TOWN OF DAVIE PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Bob Ainchir was born m Long Island New York on November 14, 1939 and attended both Elementary and High School in East Meadow, New York and;

WHEREAS, as a young man Bob enlisted into the United States Army and served his Country for three years, and after returning home Bob opened a demolition business with his brother Mel named "Anchir Brothers Demolition,” and Bob also at this time became a New York police officer and;

WHEREAS, in 1960, Bob first met a young woman named Donna Owens at a local Dave Shores hamburger stand and on their first date he picked Donna up on his motorcycle. They shared a love for both motorcycling and cars, and on June 9, 1962, Bob married Donna Owens in Roslyn, New York, and they would remain married for 46 years. Together they had three children David, Donald, and Daniel, and;

WHEREAS in 1978 Bob moved his faintly to Davie Flonda where he started a new business "Armor Tops of Davie,” that made novelty motorcycle helmets and starters for Harley Cycles. Motorcycling was in Bob’s blood, so in 1987, Bob founded and became the National President of the Wings of Gold Motorcycle Club, and;

WHEREAS Bob met a local business man named James Kleinnchert who wished to raise money for children fighting leukemia in honor of his own son, who had died from the disease, and;

WHEREAS Mr Kleinrichert took Bob to Jackson Mernenal Hospital to visit a young boy suffering from leukemia. When they walked out Bob had tears in his eyes and made a commitment to Mr Kleinrichert to have his newly founded Wings of Gold Motorcycle Club create a new event to raise money for this cause and;

WHEREAS in 1987 Bob created the South Florida President s Council Annual Charity Run he entitled the event the “SFPC Toys in the Sun Run”, and the event grew from 700 motorcycles the first year to 40,000 motorcycles this past year and the event has donated $20 million worth of toys for needy children and 6.5 million dollars to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, and;

WHERFAS in 2006 Bob Ainchir received the Umted States of America Presidential Award for Lifetime Achievement the Spirit of Healing Award from Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and the Town of Davie honored him with a Humanitarian of the Year Award, and;

WHEREAS Bob was looking forward to the dedication of the South Florida President's Council of Motorcycle Clubs and Organizations Pediatric Trauma Center, at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. However he lell ill and never had a chance to see the new sign on the facility, and;

WHEREAS, Wednesday, December 6, 2006, Bob Amchir himself succumbed from the same disease he had dedicated his life to fighting, and;

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, Febmaiy 13, 2007, at 4:00 p.m.,Mayor Tom Truex and the Davie Town Council will rededicate NW 75 Terrace to the memory of Bob AinchLr and ask all residents to attend the dedication, and;

NOW, THEREFORE the Town of Davie Mayor and Town Council do hereby proclaim February 13 2007 as BOB AMCHIR DAY.
